Snap!

Monday, May 03rd, 2010

Cleaned up my old bookmarks…and boy do I mean old! About half no longer in existence. Yes, this is a continuation of my efforts to also clean up Abulia Savant as well.

Grosse Pointe Mappin?

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

How old do I feel today? Well, about 20 years older considering I just got the invite for my 20 year class reunion. Arrgh! Welcome to the present, Class of 1988. Even though I detested my days in high school I have to admit to a bit of curiosity in returning to the scene of the crime. But Caldwell, Idaho? It took me 20 years to escape it!

Speaking of which, Grosse Pointe Blank needs a sequel, dammit!

Why so silent as of late? Here’s why.

(Warning: Contains much bitchy-ness, reflection, and general morose.)

As Young As I Want To Be

Sunday, November 04th, 2007

Two months ago I turned 37. Today I feel like 27. In that intervening time I’ve gained confidence, energy, and an increased sense of self-awareness. I feel like I can do things that I couldn’t do before. Limits are just a fabrication of the mind. Every sense has been dialed up to eleven. I want more. I need more.

I only fear when it ends.

Reason is lasting, passion is living And dying is teaching us how to live.

NaNo, NaNo!

Thursday, November 01st, 2007

NaNoWriMoSorry for my disappearance of late; I’ve been trying to clear a few things off of my schedule in preparation for today, kickoff of National Novel Writing Month! I’ve also been having some fun, hanging out with friends, and generally exploring. It feels good great.

Thankfully a plot hit me all at once from the outer cosmos yesterday morning while in the shower. (So many cool things happen in the shower!) This plot hits all of my key metrics on what would be a fun story to write for NaNo, although if it ever sees the light of day it’ll probably be under a pseudonym. You knew Anne Rice wrote her early porn under a pseudonym, right? See, I’ve given away too much already!

I have a Word Press plugin to help track my writing progress to the left. Not sure when I’ll find time to install that. Until then you can use my NaNoWriMo page which is no doubt crushing under the weight of November 1st. Don’t look for any progress until the weekend, however.

Et tu?

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Abulia’s birthday is coming up — something that lately I dread more than enjoy — and I’ll cross into that realm of closer-to-40-than-30 (37). Something I’ve always been accused of is that I’m “difficult” to shop for. Personally, I don’t think that’s true. I think I’m easy to shop for because I have such a narrow focus of interests. Were anyone to know me for any length of time — like, say, my wife — you’d know what I’d probably like. Off the top of my head:

  • A decent pair of headphones for my iPhone
  • Heroes S1 HD-DVD
  • My Tears For Fears posters from the 80s re-framed
  • An Xbox 360 game (or a pre-pay for an upcoming game)
  • iLife 08
  • A night playing the Star Trek RPG
  • Miscellaneous RPG/gaming books
  • New Orleans Saints apparel
  • New fuzzy dice for my car

Difficult? Bah!

The Journey

Monday, August 13th, 2007

On occasion I feel the need to get some things off of my chest, reflect upon what I am feeling, or just toss something out there to see what I’m thinking. Abulia Savant is intended to be that outlet. While most of the time the posts are informative to the passerby there are, on occasion, a few posts that are entirely personal and make no sense to the average reader.

This is one of those.

Monday Night Madness

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Somehow, at some point, Mondays became the most awesome night of television that I’ve enjoyed in a long, long time.

It happened months ago, with “Heroes” and “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” slowly seducing me with their sharp writing and even better acting until, upon looking at the calendar, I realize it’s Monday and my face is covered in a goofy grin. There’s this infectious joy that runs throughout the household at the prospect of watching television on Monday night. It’s really…strange.

Even with HD TiVo it’s not enough to leave those shows there; we watch them while they’re being recorded, zipping past commercials to get the next bit of goodness like crack whores looking for their next fix.

God help me when “Monday Night Football” returns. Ack!

Well…Foo

The Seagate hard drive in my MacBook died yesterday, the victim of…well, I’m not sure what. It just died.

This is my third hard drive failure in 20+ years of computing so I’m not too upset by it. It does, however, remind me to remind you to back up your data. The home machine has 1 TB of data on a RAID 0 array backed up weekly to an external storage device. The laptop notsomuch.

And while the dead drive in question was a 3rd party upgrade that did not come with the MacBook, it’s worth metioning that the stock drives used by Apple are made by…Seagate.
